At this stage, we consider one of two options

1. Allow to select multiple people but create subtasks with a task’s title for every person selected

2. Allow assigning tasks to project teams

In version 1 (available on all paid plans only) it will work this way.

1. You create a task and you select multiple people as ‘Assigned to’

2. As you do it, we show one line per person you selected below with a title populated from task’s title (but you can edit if you need to)

3. When you save a task it will be created with individual subtasks each assigned to a person you selected.

Workarounds we use – we do not assign tasks but notify people and they know they need to chat to decide who will grab a task or we create subtasks and assign those individually – it is possible on all paid plans.

We plan to allow to assign and subscribe teams later this year (like assign to ‘Designers’ rather than Tim, Bob and Alice or subscribe ‘Designers’)

We think that each task can be only in progress, not in progress or completed but true – not in progress task can have a clarification sub-status like ‘waiting for a feedback’ or ‘postponed’ and we do consider adding sub-statuses in the future. Things like ‘Testing’, ‘Review’ – task lists can be used to handle. A task in ‘Testing’ task list will still be in progress, not started or completed because if you set it as status you will never know if actual testing phase not started, in progress or completed. To handle this in Kanban view we plan to allow to switch Kanban view to show columns as task lists in addition to by status available now. Hope it helps what is planned and what to expect.

Summary:
- add substatuses (allow to edit them)
- Kanban columns either per status+ substatus or task list

- assign multiple people to one task

- progress tracking for tasks, milestones and projects

- multiday events

- start and end time for events with flexible reminders and invites

- recurrent tasks and events

- perfect time tracking for tasks and estimates

- better ways of sharing calendars supporting Outlook and iCal in addition to Google Calendar

Final plan we think will work for most use cases:

You can assign a task to one or multiple people. Anyone who is assigned to a task can change status from No Started to In Progress to Completed.

As you may have heard we will be launching advanced version of subtasks allowing to assign subtasks to people, have own status and due date as well as priority. It will also allow multiple people assignments to subtasks.

If you have a task assigned to multiple people and you hit ‘Add Subtask’ we will ask you if you want to assign same subtask to each person. If you answer ‘Yes’ – we will automatically create duplicate subtasks each assigned to one person.

For example, if you create a task ‘Review proposal’ and assign Bob, Alice and John to it. Now you hit ‘Add Subtask’ and we will ask you if each person assigned to a task need to do it. If you say ‘Yes’ we will create 3 subtasks ‘Review proposal’. One assigned to Bob, one for Alice and one for John. This is to save your time creating separate subtasks for each person when you really want everyone to complete it separately rather than as a group.

If you want anyone to complete a task – you just assign Bob, Alice and John and create no subtasks.

IMPORTANT part – please indicate in comments if task should be completed by all people it is assigned to to be completed or anyone task is assigned to can change its status to completion. Do you need an option to make it ‘each person to mark as completed’. I personally against such functionality because it introduces confusion. We would be better of allowing creating multiple copies of a task to be assigned to different people IF you need it.

Hi all Freecamp feedback contributors,

I want to apologize for our past ignorance. It was unintentional and we hope you understand that running mostly free product is not an easy task.

This weekend we are adding “subscribe to be notified” module to TODOs. The one you can currently see in Discussions. It will allow you to assign to one person and instantly subscribe all other people involved. We would like to hear from you if this solves an issue.

We are also planning to add User Groups (no ETA on this though) – so TODOs can be assigned to a precreated groups of people.

Please tell me (and my email is igor@freedcamp.com and I lead engineering team here at Freedcamp) if Groups and subscribes will still not work for you and why. We listen and it is important for us to know.
