Flexible overview with Trello-like Project board - but zoomable and.. smarter.
As a clinical psychologist with ADD juggling a complex life/job I direly need an integrating software for personal and professional planning to replace a current patchwork of partial solutions.
After reviewing MANY offerings I have identified one key functionality that none (that tick all other must-have boxes re: inergations etc) offer so far:
The possibility to combine OVERVIEW with CONCRETE DETAILS in ONE VIEW.
And to ORGANIZE / PRIORITIZE by DRAG & DROP in this same view.
The way I visualize this would work (maybe in Freedcamp) is:
I. A dynamic project board allowing DRAG & DROP of project CARDS in configurable - also drag/drop - COLUMNS, similar to Trello.
This would create the possibility of viewing PROJECTS (cards) sorted by THEME/AREA (column). I would also color code columns and have cards auto-assume color.
And let you quickly PRIORITIZE by MOVING columns and cards. Let’s say drag top prio to top left corner, work that card, resort columns/cards when done, repeat.
II. CARDS should display content - like task lists - IN THIS VIEW - similar to a Google KEEP Checklist. But smarter, letting you tick, drag-drop (sub)tasks WITHOUT having to open cards - thus hiding the overview.
Obviously cards/(sub)tasks need to be smarter than Keep, with more options if opened.
This would let you see, prioritize and work on TASK LEVEL from an OVERVIEW - where most all apps force you to zoom up/down in a hierarchical structure either losing track of concrete detail or overall picture.
III. The system could also be zoomable so that opening a COLUMN makes this appear as a BOARD with CARDS from the higher level column as columns, tasks as cards etc.

To exemplify: Let’s say it’s 2 o’clock, I’m at the office having finished the last client for the day, going home at 3, giving me an hour of admin time. Just looking at the current Freedcamp Project board does not give me any suggested next actions, just areas I could choose to explore for such.
With the type of board suggested I could instead quickly scan it to notice the fact that I have one phone call I should make before 2.30, a patient journal i need to complete (at office comp) while also noting that it’s time to water the office plant and that going by the chemist on my way home, as well as bringing certain reading material with me would be good ideas.
All this without losing the overall view, even helping me remember that one email I’d better send today when i realize i have just a few minutes left before it’s time to catch the bus.
See where i’m coming from with this?
Currently Trello will almost do this, but only in a single board, with plugins (unreliable) and at 6.66..x ( ;p ) the price of Freedcamp minimalist, which is the reasonable option for someone self-employed like me.
Infinity (startinfinity.com) also does this quite nicely (and is well worth a peek for inspiration!)
- but only on a single board. They also lack key integrations with calendar, cloud etc, a reasonable plan for freelancers and - frankly - I doubt they’ll make it in the competition very long.
So, dear Freedcamp, please go steal this idea before Click Up does? ;)
