Nested ToDos - Sub Tasks
I would love to have sub-todos - to be able to break a single ToDo into multiple sub-steps, like wunderlist or workflowly.
Something like:
- Upgrade website to latest version
- Clone current site to testing platform
- Upgrade test site
- Check test site for bugs
- Push new updates to live site
Hi All,
Basic check-list like functionality is released now – http://blog.freedcamp.com/2015/10/13/sub-tasks-few-weeks-from-launch/
Sub-tasks Pro with ability to assign people to sub-tasks, status and priority, due dates, comments and unlimited (6 levels actually is enough right?) nesting will be released in a month or two and will be a paid module.
Please stay subscribed – I will update status here when Pro Subtasks are released.
Cheers,
Igor

I would also like to see this feature. Maybe the subtasks can just be very simple for the to do list.

This idea is gold - period! The only thing that's missing on here that I could think of.
I need it badly too -

Hmm... I think that just having it as a checklist with items and checkboxes is the right way to go. It's probably best to keep all attachments and comments linked only to the main TODO, otherwise I'd be worried about communication and resource fragmentation.

Hi Andy,
I completely understand. Do you want it to be like a checklist - items with checkboxes - completed once checked or full blown TODO's with attachments and comments in a subtask or both? :)

Hi Igor,
I see where you're coming from, and that absolutely makes sense coming from a pure Agile standpoint - make every TODO a single item.
I think the difference is for those of us who are using Freedcamp outside of a software development environment in a way that's similar to Agile but not quite. Sometimes I'll have a certain TODO item that requires multiple actions to complete and having all of those contained within the TODO item so that they can be checked off and not just written as the description would be great.
Thanks for listening to my feedback, and I hope to see this functionality implemented soon! It'd tremendously helpful with some of my projects.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for posting. At Freedcamp we use TODO groups as sprints and once all TODOs are completed we move TODO group on bottom of the list. We keep completed TODOs invisible most of the time.
With all this said I completely understand your reasons and we will be adding it as soon as we can.

I would love something like this, too.
The problem with Milestones is that they require a due date (ironic saying this for a project management service, I know), and sometimes we don't need or want a specific due date. We just want to know what steps must be finished to complete a certain To-Do.
The To-Do Groups almost offer this functionality, but the key difference is that a Group doesn't function as a To-Do that can be completed and automatically moved to the Completed To-Dos. If I have sub-tasks within a To-Do, I want to be able to check off and complete each sub-To-Do, and when I reach the last one the primary To-Do item should automatically be completed and removed.
The Groups are great for a broader scope, for example "Trade Show ABC." Then under the Group "Trade Show ABC" I could have a To-Do such as "Large Banner." Under that To-Do I could have:
-Design large banner
-Get print proof of banner
-Order banner
-Check banner
-Load banner for the showEach of those sub-To-Dos could have a due date and owner. Once those are all done the To-Do "Large Banner" would be completed and removed.

Please tell me what what sub-tasks should solve TODO Groups don't?

Me too, sub tasks would be really great. For example, Teambox didn't have, but then Redbooth (ex Teambox) added them and I always used them. And now I miss them :P

It would be a great feature for Freedcamp

Great idea Mike! Thank you.
We are currently more into Milestones and TODOs integration and Time Tracking and estimation in TODOs as well as task dependency - moving towards Gantt charts. For us this is something we terribly miss however sub-tasks are also in our list.
