      You have left! (?) (thinking…)

We will add most recent comment on top later.

The only problem we see with it is – if you have 5 new comments you have to scroll down to see first one and scroll again up to a top of the page, read last unread comment and post own one.

      What was done
      - scroll down arrow on top which will scroll page for you.
      - if you have 5 unread comments this page will scroll down to the first unread comment.
      - unread comments will be marked clearly on a page.

When you open an item you will immediately see if it has unread comments. Also these comments will be marked as read on your Notification page automatically.

      Regards,
      Igor

No issue - just busy with tasks having 200+ votes https://freedcamp.uservoice.com/forums/126945-suggestions-for-features/filters/top

      Needs to be done
      - add an option to change how comments are shown (ASC/DESC)
      - make sure it is supported in all applications - Tasks, Discussions, Wikis, Files, CRM
      - change button which scrolls now to the first unread comment to support DESC order (should be shown only if you have more than a few unread comments or be hidden in DESC version entirely).

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Jim - agree - it has to be user's choice

Right now you do NOT need to scroll - https://www.dropbox.com/s/nf97h90l6bgah73/scroll%20down.png?dl=0

      1. You can click and go straight to the last comment
      OR
      2. If there are unread comments this button will scroll you to the first unread comment

When you are checking last comments this button will help you to go up to top without scrolling - it will change direction and wait you inside a sticky header we show.

Just my notes on 'most recent on top':
      - if you do not want to read last unread comments and just add an own comment - works perfectly
      - if you want to read new comments before posting own one and have 6 unread comments you will first have to scroll down to the first unread and start reading by scrolling up until you reached the top of the page. Sure - we can implement our 'arrow down' with red bubble to move you to that position in one click and after that it will move you to the very first comment down the page. Go down, scroll up here.

Currently, when you want to read new comments, last comment on bottom allows us to navigate you to the first unread comment down below where you keep scrolling down to reach new comment box which is again down direction. Go down, scroll down here.

In addition we all have a habit to read top to bottom and with that I agree that some people may like to do it in the opposite direction - hence a need to implement this feature.

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

Please also do not forget that your browser is very powerful piece of software. For example in Chrome 'End' on keyboard will instantly scroll to a bottom of the page and 'Home' key will scroll up (Windows)

        Hi Roberto,

Have you ever used or considered to use Zapier? Will you be willing to use another service to automate workflow in Freedcamp? We may not have all that is required but adding Zapier triggers and actions is much simpler since we already have Zapier integrations.

        Please reply in comments.

        Cheers,
        Igor

@Roberto - we may not have now all you need https://zapier.com/apps/freedcamp/integrations/zapier. You will most likely need a trigger what task ABC is completed -> create a task XYZ and assign it to D, but if you email help@freedcamp.com we will be able to add it quickly.

          You have left! (?) (thinking…)

          Hi All,

We think that each task can be only in progress, not in progress or completed but true – not in progress task can have a clarification sub-status like ‘waiting for a feedback’ or ‘postponed’ and we do consider adding sub-statuses in the future. Things like ‘Testing’, ‘Review’ – task lists can be used to handle. A task in ‘Testing’ task list will still be in progress, not started or completed because if you set it as status you will never know if actual testing phase not started, in progress or completed. To handle this in Kanban view we plan to allow to switch Kanban view to show columns as task lists in addition to by status available now. Hope it helps what is planned and what to expect.

          Summary:
          - add substatuses (allow to edit them)
          - Kanban columns either per status+sub-status or task list

          Please email your…

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Diamond - semantically 'yes' it is either in progress, not in progress or completed. In progress status can be 'Testing', no progress status can be 'On Hold' or 'Blocked'.

Kanban columns are not equal to task statuses. We have this posting here really about two different things

          - I want to call my statuses to give them different names such as 'Testing', 'On Hold' or 'Blocked'. If you want to create a new status you will need to tell the system if Testing is one of - doing, not doing or done so Freedcamp knows when you will want to see all tasks 'doing' to be filtered and for many other things

          - I want more Kanban columns - the obvious solution here is to allow to define what Kanban columns are (task lists, people, statuses or priorities). If you create task list 'Test' and set your Kanban to use task lists as columns you will see column 'Test'.

I personally (igor[]free..[]com) think that 'Test' is not a status. It can be a task list or a tag. 'Test' semantically does not tell you if it is ready for testing, in testing or completed testing, so cannot act as a status but with the first bullet point - sure you can set it as a status if you want, but will have to define if it status semantically tied to not doing, doing or done.

So no - we do not want to tell anyone what to do. Two bullet points I outlined provide enough room for you to create as many Kanban columns but do even more - set columns to be task lists and group by a person, priority, due date (currently Kanban is always statuses for columns and task lists for grouping).

          "Cannot Complete" Redlining Function

I think it would be great to add a redlining function to cross off tasks that you never did or won't work but still want to be part of the thinking process.

Say one has three ideas for jelly flavors:
          Pickle Juice
          Boisenberry
          Kiwi

Out of the three, a logical person would write reports for the last two but skip the first one. While we still want to know we came up with the idea for the wrong jelly flavor but will not mark as completed since we did not write a report for that item.

Additionally, if you have a list of guests. 10 say they can come and 5 say they cannot come. There's no visual way to differentiate between the two groups if they both have to be marked as completed to get them out of the way in a green (positive) manner.

          @Adrienne

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

Let's not mix more statuses and more Kanban columns because these are completely different things. Unless in your workflow a task added to Testing status is immediately assumed in progress - Testing is not a status but a task list where you add a task to and someone starts testing and completes it and moved it to 'Release' task list.

However, we do want to unify how most used Freedcamp application - Tasks works.
We want to allow flexible groupings - currently tasks grouped by a task list with an option to remove groupings entirely.

Kanban view is special as you have groupings - currently task lists and columns (currently statuses). So here we can allow you to decide what attributes you want to use (if any) for grouping and what to use as columns. So you can have no grouping and task lists as columns or people as groupings and statuses as columns.

This concept is demonstrated here https://www.dropbox.com/s/gwnunq91u5hrl4i/Tasks%20Views.png?dl=0 and applies to all views - List, Kanban and Gantt with the exception that Kanban will also allow to define what to use as columns.

Once this is done - it will cover most use cases and we will only implement substatuses - an ability to define 'Blocked', 'Waiting response' as a substatuses for 'No Progress' status and ability to expose substatuses as columns and groupings. We would like to keep them as substatuses as we know semantics which is only split into 3 things - not doing, doing and done so we can use it in Freedcamp to help you complete your projects faster.

Let us know what you think in the comments, please!

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Mike - all 3 main statuses will have custom sub-statuses. Right now you can use Custom Fields and add extra d/down "Sub-status":
          No Progress - Planned
No Progress - Waiting for Approval
          No Progress - Delayed
          In Progress - Testing
          In Progress - Review
          Completed - Declined
          etc.

Custom Fields, once used, are exposed to filters so you can easily use them to create your most needed filters and switch contexts quickly.

See here for details - https://freedcamp.com/Freedcamp_LxR/Freedcamp_Devel_yOf/wiki/wiki_public/view/3Tbab

          Hi,

Why in this case 5 task lists with the following names won't work?

          Backlog
          Analysis
          Development
          Deployment

You move your tasks from Backlog where all tasks are always not in progress status to Analysis task list, assign and start it. When a task in Analysis is completed you push them to Development task list etc.

You can also add Custom Field 'Stage' as a drop down and have all your tasks having one of these attributes attached:
          Backlog
          Analysis
          Development
          Deployment

if you are on Business Plan.

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

I assume each of 7 statuses will have a binary attribute attached (in progress, not in progress) and order of these statuses needs to be defined as well by you.

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Megan - using Custom Fields as a substatus will not add extra columns to Kanban view, sorry about it.

          We need to add
          - more statuses and support multi-column Trello like Kanban
          OR
          - more substatuses and keep Kanban with three columns, but expose substatus to be visible as labels on tasks.

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

In my opinion having possibility to add substatus, see them and be able to filter them, will perfectly make the job.
Personally I do not think having more than 3 columns in canban view is necessary. 3 colums with substatuses visible with be just perfect.

          Cheers,
          Marcin

          >Or do you in fact mean: "It will however not change your ability to see ONLY 3 columns in Kanban view." ?

          Yes

          > I guess we will be sticking with Trello for the time being.

I guess so and sorry for a confusion with the status update I wrote.

          @David - confirmed as correct.

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

          Our immediate road-map:
          - Gantt (start date tasks and task dependencies)
          - recurrent Events
          - recurrent Tasks
          - Custom fields in Tasks
          - open API, Slack, Zapier integrations
          - DropBox and OneDrive integrations
          - emailing into Freedcamp to create new things

So the only way for now will be to create Custom filed called Substatus and provide values for a drop down list and make it mandatory field however this feature will only be available on Business Plan (old paying customers will be able to buy it from marketplace using old pricing model too).

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

Yes - looks like we MAY have to go with custom statuses with no hierarchy and allow as many columns as you want. We only need to ask order of them and what statuses mean progress, no progress or completion. If you want to put completion on left and not started statuses on right - it is up to you.

          Igor@freedcamp.com

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Wayne - with this approach we can stay within 3 columns and allow fully custom statuses.

It does not stop us from allowing all your statuses to be columns but we can do it LATER.

Proposed here solution is MVP to allow more statuses without redoing a lot in Freedcamp. Shortest path for it to be done and released.

As for departments being able to act as statuses - probably better to use it this way - https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfet3uwizdqxstr/Kanban%203%20columns%20workaround.png?dl=0

but looks like you do not need - not completed, in progress and completed statuses in each department.

Have you considered Trello at all? If you only push tasks between manufacturing process columns and each person responsible for a step is to grab as many top tasks as possible, do them and move them to next step - looks like Trello will work better for you.

Until we will implement this and also add support multiple statuses columns in Kanban we will never be a perfect system for your workflow, unfortunately.

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Scott - have you checked - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4dtvporv9mlvgu9/multiple%20statuses.png?dl=0 This is what THIS portal provides (UserVoice)? Kind of status categories wherev YOU as a user define what you want to be the options in each.

In you case you will decide if you want to create "Not approved" in "No Progress" category or you will just use "In Progress" in "Doing" and reassign back to developer who will be notified and read supposedly last comment as what was missed and needs fixing. Just a matter if you want to see "Not approved" tasks while their status as such and no one started working on it again and put it to "In Progress".

You will decide if "In Review" has to be in "Done" or "In Progress". It is totally flexible and up to you.

In systems like Jira you can spend some time and define full workflow as to what happens if a task is approved or rejected etc.

If we add separate statuses - we will have to redo a LOT - Kanban to support 6-8 columns, List view etc etc.

What if we will do the same UserVoice does - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4dtvporv9mlvgu9/multiple%20statuses.png?dl=0
we will keep 3 statuses - Not Started, Doing, Done and allow you guys to create 2-5 sub-statuses.

          No Progress
          In Planning
          In Review
          Ready to start

          Doing
          In Progress
          Delayed
          Blocked
          Pending

          Done
          Cancelled
          Duplicate
          Completed
          In Review

So we stay in 3 main statuses but give you options to decide if 'Delayed; is in 'Doing' category for you or in 'No Progress'

          An "on hold" feature

Our due dates fluctuate all the time. The project still exists but there is no set due date so we don't want to mark it as complete but we also don't want it look like we haven't finished it. So a task would be: not started, in progress, complete, on hold.

          @Greg,

I don't know any platform where we can escrow your money until we reach a target budget we can definitely set allowing us to work on it.

Asking to commit money in principal does not work. When you need money - people left or not interested any more.

On platforms like Kickstarter 20% is lost as commission.

I would prefer to work with one company, one Freedcamp client who will get life time free account with unlimited storage and whose name as a sponsor with a short plug will always be displayed on a marketplace page where we will ask users to go to sponsor's social pages and say 'thank you' to them.

The only idea I have is to create own page and use storage yearly subscriptions as a voting mechanism.

Let's say this feature will be developed if we collect $4K.

You vote by buying Freedcamp file storage for one year and in fact you get it for exactly one year.

We have to decide for how long we collect money for a feature - I propose 1 year.

If we collect $4K - we post delivery date and start development
If we do not collect $4K - we email everyone who contributed asking if they want to wait another year or want a refund. People who will agree to wait will get next year file storage they bough 100% free.

People who decided to take their money back will be 100% refunded. We loose always some fees when we charge you and when we refund you but we can not totally avoid it.

          What do you think?

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

We will do more statuses in Tasks PRO version or add add-on you can drop on top of Tasks to get extra customisable statuses. Problem with a lot of our promises is under capitalisation and lack of resources to improve product faster :(

As I said before - if you love Freedcamp - pay 2$ a month for extra storage even if you do not need it to keep us going. We work very hard here to keep most of it free for you too.

          Cheers,
          Igor

New Manage System will introduce a few new changes alongside new Tasks like familiar design:
            - SysAdmins concept - user can do all you can except change plan changes billing
            - Global Teams will be Just Teams
            - New Teams are added to project groups and will have access to all projects in those groups
            - some projects will be allowed to be made private - in this case, you add your teams and/or individuals to it on per private project basis.

                      Hi,

It can be hard to get used to a new interface. We are looking forward to your feedback on how we can improve the interface to be easier for new users to learn the system.

This is a major change, and it will require fine tuning to make sure everyone is happy.

                      Cheers,
                      Igor

@Pete - please provide use case scenarios where you remember that interface a year ago was definitely faster than now (or taking fewer mouse moves or clicks). You can email these to help@freedcamp.com

You can simply set a task (recurring) 'Create Monthly Reports' project task recurring monthly to remind you and use Project Templates (Business plan) to create a new project from a template project you pre-created with all the tasks required.

@Mike - thanks for posting. It will probably be easier to add an ability to copy/move wikis in the same or to another project which will instantly solve this (you just add your templates as wiki prefixed [TEMPLATE] in a title) and many other use cases

@Andreas - yes, users can see all tags and after applying tags all project groups not matching filters with all the projects within becoming totally invisible with the indicator visible on top that you see not all projects in your Freedcamp.

                                    Hi James,

We wanted to explicitly separate security profiles which can not be changed and default teams which can be changed.

Also more teams can be added with whatever profile you want.

Does it make sense? I am happy to listen and make adjustments to avoid any confusion.

                                    Cheers,
                                    Igor

                                    @Marcella

Currently, we have 4 security profiles for users in a project - last 4 columns here https://freedcamp.com/profiles/help and two higher level access profiles - the first two columns

When you create a project we create 4 teams in a project with the following names
                                    Organizer - security profile Admin
Team Player - security profile Pro User
                                    Contributor - security profile User
                                    Guest - security profile Guest
                                    Observer - security profile ReadOnly

You can remove, rename teams or add new teams.
Each team in a project is always associated with one and only one security profile.

Users are added to a project:
                                    - owner always has access
                                    - project group administrators in a project group a project belongs
                                    - people invited to project teams
                                    - people added to Global Teams

We are working on a new simplified system where it will be no more project teams. Only Global Teams will be used called Teams.

                                        Hi,

                                        Thanks for posting!

If we will allow to attach a Google document to an event – will it work?

Google document allows – concurrent editing, adding comments on document parts, version control etc.

                                        Cheers,

@Scott - to highlight overdue projects we need to add start and due date for projects and define when a project is considered overdue. Regarding adding what is shown - we have just released new calendar and I will add project name and project group name to Agenda and Daily views where we have space to show them. In the monthly view, you can see project name when you click on an item.

@Mark - please my note above. Please also note that we add project and project group name to calendar links and data we push to Google Calendar via GSync so you can always use this and see this info in your external calendar if it can display long titles

We have two use cases here.

                                            1. Making is super easy to work with clients. Clients can see only Discussion and Tasks which specifically marked as visible to them. Rest is not visible to them

                                            2. Allowing true privacy – concept described by Caroline. Once this mode is enabled users can create private tasks and decide who they want to share it with.

@Caroline – I assume project and project group administrators should be able to see private tasks. Right?

                                            NEW UPDATE

Probably we should move Private Tasks and Private Discussions into a separate add-on which is not available by default.

We have requests for private tasks and we have requests for disabling privacy – when a teacher in a school does not want students to create private tasks at all.

I assume functionality similar to Private Discussions we already have in Freedcamp is what you are after.

                                            OLD UPDATE

AdminFreedcamp (Feedback Squad, Freedcamp) commented  ·

@Sasha-Shae - it only looks to be as simple as in Discussions.
We need to rewrite essentially all Tasks and Milestones to make sure that a milestone cannot be assigned to a person who can not see some private tasks in that milestone, add extra validations that you can not add a private subtask to a task whose assignee cannot see that private subtask and about 100 other use cases.

Without subtasks and linked to Tasks applications - Milestones, Time etc - I agree it would be relatively easy.

Note: This feature was requested in 2012 and only 137 people voted for it. About 800 people join Freedcamp daily.

If this is a must-have functionality and you can not use a separate project to track customer tasks I would honestly and respectfully suggest finding another system with an ability to handle private tasks.

I think concept of making private tasks from your coworkers in a project is very questionable to be in demand. I hear about it for the first time. Can you give us a use case please?

                                            Cheers,
