Thanks for the suggestion. For now, you can collapse or expand all tasks from the cogwheel menu.

We will consider implementing this for individual tasks if it gets more votes.

This is a tricky one. We used to have such a dynamic avatar http://lab.ejci.net/favico.js/ that was showing unread notifications and we allow users to filter notifications. We took in account unread notifications with filters applied to show unread with http://lab.ejci.net/favico.js/

The end result - people forget about applies filters and complain about missing notifications. So we removed http://lab.ejci.net/favico.js/

We probably have to start with making Notifications configurable so you can receive only what you are interested via email or on the Notifications page.

The question is why you are subscribed to those tasks. Is it because you created them? Probably you can unsubscribe yourself from such tasks unless you are interested in comments but not interested when a task started or completed. Are you using the Notification page and/or email notifications?

This is a discussion - opinions exchange. Any vendor can be considered enforcing own reasoning to users, even Apple with the 1st iPhone.

Please provide your reasoning as a new comment and I will reply to you in comments.

    > Thanks @David – I will revise and update status this or next week.

I did not have time to do so because we were busy with other matters here but I haven't forgotten about it.

I will also make sure we will share version 1 plan with all users contributed here and in the Facebook community group before we actually start implementing it. I am not sure if you experienced such an approach with other vendors. I personally, did not.

    Thank you

Re: Kanban - there is no difference between now and if we will also allow setting Kanban columns to be Task Lists. Right now https://blog.freedcamp.com/2016/04/27/how-advanced-subtsasks-work-in-kanban-view/

If Kanban columns will be task lists and you move subtask from task list A to B it will become a task in task list B (column)

The only way to do it properly is to design a 'flat view' where subtasks are clearly marked but they are not showing as hierarchies, I think.

@Diamond - semantically 'yes' it is either in progress, not in progress or completed. In progress status can be 'Testing', no progress status can be 'On Hold' or 'Blocked'.

Kanban columns are not equal to task statuses. We have this posting here really about two different things

    - I want to call my statuses to give them different names such as 'Testing', 'On Hold' or 'Blocked'. If you want to create a new status you will need to tell the system if Testing is one of - doing, not doing or done so Freedcamp knows when you will want to see all tasks 'doing' to be filtered and for many other things

    - I want more Kanban columns - the obvious solution here is to allow to define what Kanban columns are (task lists, people, statuses or priorities). If you create task list 'Test' and set your Kanban to use task lists as columns you will see column 'Test'.

I personally (igor[]free..[]com) think that 'Test' is not a status. It can be a task list or a tag. 'Test' semantically does not tell you if it is ready for testing, in testing or completed testing, so cannot act as a status but with the first bullet point - sure you can set it as a status if you want, but will have to define if it status semantically tied to not doing, doing or done.

So no - we do not want to tell anyone what to do. Two bullet points I outlined provide enough room for you to create as many Kanban columns but do even more - set columns to be task lists and group by a person, priority, due date (currently Kanban is always statuses for columns and task lists for grouping).

    "Cannot Complete" Redlining Function

I think it would be great to add a redlining function to cross off tasks that you never did or won't work but still want to be part of the thinking process.

Say one has three ideas for jelly flavors:
    Pickle Juice
    Boisenberry
    Kiwi

Out of the three, a logical person would write reports for the last two but skip the first one. While we still want to know we came up with the idea for the wrong jelly flavor but will not mark as completed since we did not write a report for that item.

Additionally, if you have a list of guests. 10 say they can come and 5 say they cannot come. There's no visual way to differentiate between the two groups if they both have to be marked as completed to get them out of the way in a green (positive) manner.

Let's not mix more statuses and more Kanban columns because these are completely different things. Unless in your workflow a task added to Testing status is immediately assumed in progress - Testing is not a status but a task list where you add a task to and someone starts testing and completes it and moved it to 'Release' task list.

However, we do want to unify how most used Freedcamp application - Tasks works.
We want to allow flexible groupings - currently tasks grouped by a task list with an option to remove groupings entirely.

Kanban view is special as you have groupings - currently task lists and columns (currently statuses). So here we can allow you to decide what attributes you want to use (if any) for grouping and what to use as columns. So you can have no grouping and task lists as columns or people as groupings and statuses as columns.

This concept is demonstrated here https://www.dropbox.com/s/gwnunq91u5hrl4i/Tasks%20Views.png?dl=0 and applies to all views - List, Kanban and Gantt with the exception that Kanban will also allow to define what to use as columns.

Once this is done - it will cover most use cases and we will only implement substatuses - an ability to define 'Blocked', 'Waiting response' as a substatuses for 'No Progress' status and ability to expose substatuses as columns and groupings. We would like to keep them as substatuses as we know semantics which is only split into 3 things - not doing, doing and done so we can use it in Freedcamp to help you complete your projects faster.

Let us know what you think in the comments, please!

@Mike - all 3 main statuses will have custom sub-statuses. Right now you can use Custom Fields and add extra d/down "Sub-status":
    No Progress - Planned
No Progress - Waiting for Approval
    No Progress - Delayed
    In Progress - Testing
    In Progress - Review
    Completed - Declined
    etc.

Custom Fields, once used, are exposed to filters so you can easily use them to create your most needed filters and switch contexts quickly.

See here for details - https://freedcamp.com/Freedcamp_LxR/Freedcamp_Devel_yOf/wiki/wiki_public/view/3Tbab

    Hi,

Why in this case 5 task lists with the following names won't work?

    Backlog
    Analysis
    Development
    Deployment

You move your tasks from Backlog where all tasks are always not in progress status to Analysis task list, assign and start it. When a task in Analysis is completed you push them to Development task list etc.

You can also add Custom Field 'Stage' as a drop down and have all your tasks having one of these attributes attached:
    Backlog
    Analysis
    Development
    Deployment

if you are on Business Plan.

I assume each of 7 statuses will have a binary attribute attached (in progress, not in progress) and order of these statuses needs to be defined as well by you.

@Megan - using Custom Fields as a substatus will not add extra columns to Kanban view, sorry about it.

    We need to add
    - more statuses and support multi-column Trello like Kanban
    OR
    - more substatuses and keep Kanban with three columns, but expose substatus to be visible as labels on tasks.

In my opinion having possibility to add substatus, see them and be able to filter them, will perfectly make the job.
Personally I do not think having more than 3 columns in canban view is necessary. 3 colums with substatuses visible with be just perfect.

    Our immediate road-map:
    - Gantt (start date tasks and task dependencies)
    - recurrent Events
    - recurrent Tasks
    - Custom fields in Tasks
    - open API, Slack, Zapier integrations
    - DropBox and OneDrive integrations
    - emailing into Freedcamp to create new things

So the only way for now will be to create Custom filed called Substatus and provide values for a drop down list and make it mandatory field however this feature will only be available on Business Plan (old paying customers will be able to buy it from marketplace using old pricing model too).

Yes - looks like we MAY have to go with custom statuses with no hierarchy and allow as many columns as you want. We only need to ask order of them and what statuses mean progress, no progress or completion. If you want to put completion on left and not started statuses on right - it is up to you.

@Wayne - with this approach we can stay within 3 columns and allow fully custom statuses.

It does not stop us from allowing all your statuses to be columns but we can do it LATER.

Proposed here solution is MVP to allow more statuses without redoing a lot in Freedcamp. Shortest path for it to be done and released.

As for departments being able to act as statuses - probably better to use it this way - https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfet3uwizdqxstr/Kanban%203%20columns%20workaround.png?dl=0

but looks like you do not need - not completed, in progress and completed statuses in each department.

Have you considered Trello at all? If you only push tasks between manufacturing process columns and each person responsible for a step is to grab as many top tasks as possible, do them and move them to next step - looks like Trello will work better for you.

Until we will implement this and also add support multiple statuses columns in Kanban we will never be a perfect system for your workflow, unfortunately.

@Scott - have you checked - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4dtvporv9mlvgu9/multiple%20statuses.png?dl=0 This is what THIS portal provides (UserVoice)? Kind of status categories wherev YOU as a user define what you want to be the options in each.

In you case you will decide if you want to create "Not approved" in "No Progress" category or you will just use "In Progress" in "Doing" and reassign back to developer who will be notified and read supposedly last comment as what was missed and needs fixing. Just a matter if you want to see "Not approved" tasks while their status as such and no one started working on it again and put it to "In Progress".

You will decide if "In Review" has to be in "Done" or "In Progress". It is totally flexible and up to you.

In systems like Jira you can spend some time and define full workflow as to what happens if a task is approved or rejected etc.

If we add separate statuses - we will have to redo a LOT - Kanban to support 6-8 columns, List view etc etc.

What if we will do the same UserVoice does - https://www.dropbox.com/s/4dtvporv9mlvgu9/multiple%20statuses.png?dl=0
we will keep 3 statuses - Not Started, Doing, Done and allow you guys to create 2-5 sub-statuses.

    No Progress
    In Planning
    In Review
    Ready to start

    Doing
    In Progress
    Delayed
    Blocked
    Pending

    Done
    Cancelled
    Duplicate
    Completed
    In Review

So we stay in 3 main statuses but give you options to decide if 'Delayed; is in 'Doing' category for you or in 'No Progress'

    An "on hold" feature

Our due dates fluctuate all the time. The project still exists but there is no set due date so we don't want to mark it as complete but we also don't want it look like we haven't finished it. So a task would be: not started, in progress, complete, on hold.

    @Greg,

I don't know any platform where we can escrow your money until we reach a target budget we can definitely set allowing us to work on it.

Asking to commit money in principal does not work. When you need money - people left or not interested any more.

On platforms like Kickstarter 20% is lost as commission.

I would prefer to work with one company, one Freedcamp client who will get life time free account with unlimited storage and whose name as a sponsor with a short plug will always be displayed on a marketplace page where we will ask users to go to sponsor's social pages and say 'thank you' to them.

The only idea I have is to create own page and use storage yearly subscriptions as a voting mechanism.

Let's say this feature will be developed if we collect $4K.

You vote by buying Freedcamp file storage for one year and in fact you get it for exactly one year.

We have to decide for how long we collect money for a feature - I propose 1 year.

If we collect $4K - we post delivery date and start development
If we do not collect $4K - we email everyone who contributed asking if they want to wait another year or want a refund. People who will agree to wait will get next year file storage they bough 100% free.

People who decided to take their money back will be 100% refunded. We loose always some fees when we charge you and when we refund you but we can not totally avoid it.

    What do you think?

We will do more statuses in Tasks PRO version or add add-on you can drop on top of Tasks to get extra customisable statuses. Problem with a lot of our promises is under capitalisation and lack of resources to improve product faster :(

As I said before - if you love Freedcamp - pay 2$ a month for extra storage even if you do not need it to keep us going. We work very hard here to keep most of it free for you too.

    - Global Teams will be Just Teams
    - New Teams are added to project groups and will have access to all projects in those groups
    - some projects will be allowed to be made private - in this case, you add your teams and/or individuals to it on per private project basis.

After this is done there is no linkage between changes made on Google Drive (files are added or removed) which are reflected in Freedcamp. Correct?

    Task - Create a web site - total 15h 15 min
time entry 1 - 15 May 3:30 - setting up web hosting account
    time entry 2 - 15 May 5:00 - installing WordPress
    time entry 3 - 16 May 6:45 - installing themes and plugins

Do you want to add tags to a task or also to each activity - time entry?

    @Tamas - invited.

Yes - grand idea is to:
    - allow track time on tasks and subtasks-pro
    - allow to run reports in Time app
    - allow to pull completed only tasks for a time period (bill all completed task completed in Oct 2017)
    - allow to pull all time for a period of time (bill all time worked in Oct 2017)
    - allow to do all by a project or across multiple/all/completed projects
    - allow to hand pick tasks to bill
    - allow not only to bill clients but also export what you have to pay to your contractors - all above use cases will also apply.

    In the future:
    - apply rates to people you pay
    - apply rates to clients you bill

@Jaroslav - you can create a saved search - Show only not completed time tasks so you can keep it as default but remove it with one click, if you need to see all records.

"Be able to fill in the estimated time on a To-do (without creating a time task), after you complete a to-do a popup should show up and ask you how many hours &/or minutes you've spend on the To-do you just completed.

This is way easier than adding seperate Time Tasks which you cannot link to a to-do."

"It would be great to have the time tracker automatically add a date stamp to time entries. Sometimes it is necessary to report the amount of time spent for a certain day or span of days or months." Mike

We have switched to full time work one month ago. You will see a lot of improvements in 2014.

The only update we can provide you at this time is that we have this feature on our list and will be launched within 2014.

    Hey Alex,

So unfortunately the feature was built as I stated last year, however we had to make the hard decision to revert all these types of changes that would merge functionality of two applications together in exchange for building an "extension" system that would provide this functionality ONLY when the user decides they want it.

As a system that is trying to provide universal Project Management to every type of user we decided it's important for us to make less decisions on the users behalf of what they NEED and what we think they need. So in Version 3 we have laid some of the ground work for these modules that will add more functionality for users who choose to have it. This keeps interface simple and interactions straight forward, but also will provide unlimited extendability for users who want to do advanced linking of applications.

The truth is Version 3 will not support this on initial release, we have tried to scale down the amount of changes we are going to release to ensure a stable and timely release. Our main focus will be on our new API which then will allow for developers to create these types of modules for the user.

    Best,
    Angel

Probably the best option will be to have it as a part of custom reports:

    - select all completed
    - group by MM
    - group by YYYY

    Will generate

    2018
    – November
    – December

    2019
    – January
    – February
    – March

    OR

    - select all completed
    - group by person
    - group by MM
    - group by YYYY

    Will generate

    Alex
    2018
    – November
    – December

    2019
    – January
    – February

    John
    2018
    – November
    – December

    2019
    – January
    – February

So you can do any aggregation like

    2018
    – Alex
    – John

    2019
    – Alex

    Hi Gabriel,

Did you mean an ability to add/edit/delete tags in Calendar view for all items - tasks, events, milestones, issues etc?

    Cheers,
    Igor

Will it help if we allow to invite people and define their notification level for projects you invite them to? In this case, you will invite people with ‘none’ and they will be using a new Notifications page to catch up?

Re: "yet it is not crystal clear in the email that gets received as to why exactly the notification is issued"

Please send to help@freedcamp.com at least one email where it is not crystal clear why you received it. I attached a sample - all emails we send are pretty clear as to what was changed.

Re: Customers - do not subscribe them to too many tasks. Use @mentions when needed and unsubscribe after a comment posted?

It only makes sense to show when you set start and due date as '17 working days', right? Or when you open a task.
