Even adding a checkbox as a type of bullet for a list would make it a little nicer. Subtasks are too much for things in a list like milk, eggs, etc. I think a list is a fundamental element for any organizational tool. It does not have to be linked to the progress - someone may choose to leave items checked when they don't need them and uncheck them when it is time to reorder for instance.
