Nested ToDos - Sub Tasks
I would love to have sub-todos - to be able to break a single ToDo into multiple sub-steps, like wunderlist or workflowly.
Something like:
- Upgrade website to latest version
- Clone current site to testing platform
- Upgrade test site
- Check test site for bugs
- Push new updates to live site
Hi All,
Basic check-list like functionality is released now – http://blog.freedcamp.com/2015/10/13/sub-tasks-few-weeks-from-launch/
Sub-tasks Pro with ability to assign people to sub-tasks, status and priority, due dates, comments and unlimited (6 levels actually is enough right?) nesting will be released in a month or two and will be a paid module.
Please stay subscribed – I will update status here when Pro Subtasks are released.
Cheers,
Igor

A project management SW without sub-task... Interesting!

Hi Mark,
We will integrate with Zapier and IFTTT when we have time. No plans to integrate with any particular system directly. Also planning to open API one day.
Priority number one is to either get an investment or cross a point of self-sustainability with new scalable pricing with business/premium plans and iOS app launch.
Cheers,

Is there any integration plan with Trello?

What about mimicking the todo af Asana, they have sub-todo and it is perfect

For sub-tasks I'd love a combination of Kanban and Lists.
So Kanban that you can move across the board but it has a checklist check list of subtasks to tick off

Hello, do you guys have any news when this could be released?

We are working on sub-tasks and allowing to assign a task to multiple people right now.
Task dependencies is a separate task/idea/suggestion. -

Is there any news for this feature?
At least you can add a dependency between ToDo's.For example, it would be great if we can make this:
Milestone
- Launch version 1.0ToDos for the whole Team
- Launch Website (linked to "Milestone: Launch version 1.0")
- Present final app (linked to "Milestone: Launch version 1.0")Todos for Design Team
- Draft new website (linked to "ToDo: Launch Website")
- Chose colours (linked to "ToDo: Launch Website")
- Make some tests for the new website (linked to "ToDo: Launch Website")ToDos for Production team
- Research (linked to "ToDo: Present final app")
- Make some tests (linked to "ToDo: Present final app")
- Test UI (linked to "ToDo: Present final app")Once all the subtasks are done, the bigger task are done.

Is this something that has been added, or is it still in the works?

Yossi - Andy changed his mind - check his comment on 13 Nov 2014. I think we should go with basic version.
What you want is almost to have Milestones inside ToDos view. Correct? What if we will work with you on bringing 'Milestones view' in To-Do's because To-Do's is a key app in Freedcamp and we constantly think how to improve it.
So would it be benefitial to add controls to it to allow grouping tasks not only by groups (as is now) but also by person assigned, priority, due date, milestone etc where these will represents groupping sections?
We do plan to add progress to Milestones - wireframe is here -> https://www.dropbox.com/s/49mqc9rgp05miwb/milestones_progress.png?dl=0 so we will be able to display 3/10 when tasks are groupped by a milestone in To-Do's app.
@Yossi - I also want to ask you what will be missing for you in Milestones application (if we will add progress) to fully work from it, if anything.
It would be great if everyone following this thread will send me a note (igor@freedcamp.com) or just reply here.
Team and I are truly appreciate your help.

I would prefer what Andy Waplinger suggested.
It means that each sub task is actually a full functional task (which will also make it easier to develop, I think). A task may become the grouping of sub-tasks, with all the current functionality of the task today.
If I have document that is relevant to the whole task I will put it on the parent task. If it is relevant only for a subtask, I will put it only on the specific sub-task.
This might seem like the groups functionality, buy groups are never completed, don't have notification etc.I hope this helps,

Great points - thank you.

the more i think about this...i'd suggest starting by NOT having notifications sent. Just add the feature and see what people think.
-
J Bauguss commented
i should say the parent todo can send notifications when a subtask is created/completed.

I agree, a 2/4 is probably better. Subtasks (2 of 4 completed)
you could probably put a absolutely positioned div under the text that represents percent if you felt like it.
I don't really think a subtask should have all the bells and whistles a regular todo has. The parent todo could send notifications when a subtask is completed just like it does when a comment is made.
It's really more a checklist that is part of the main todo. Keeping it simple is probably best.
That's my 2cents anyway and certainly makes it less complex to implement. Could always start there and get user feedback.

Thanks for posting.
Eventually we will need to add an ability to assign tasks to multiple people. Apparently, too many people use it.
We need somehow marry this idea with sub-tasks.
Do we show who checked sub-task?
Do we ask if EACH person should check EACH sub-taskI would prefer to show 2/4 instead of 50% as it carries more information 10/20 and 1/2 are two different scenarios you would like to know immediately. Right?

"x of y"
Current todos screen is something like
- task 1
- task 2 (comments: 1)
- task 3could become
- task 1 (75% complete)
- task 2 (comments 1)
- task 3I'd assume to get to the sublist we'd want to click Task 1 to edit. That edit screen would have the sub todo list implementation there along with the comments section.
What this solves that todo groups doesn't is having a clean all todos list screen. If I started breaking down a major todo into groups, my todos page would get enormous. I also don't particularly want a million projects. This just adds that one extra layer of customization that some of us would love

"the all todo's screen could also show a "x of y" for a status. "
Please explain this part.

i agree with this idea big time!!! our usage has quickly morphed into putting larger tasks in the todo screen that have many parts. the all todo's screen could also show a "x of y" for a status.
