Allow emailing into a specific project
It would be useful to be able to email into a project- specifically if we have automated reports to share with clients (Google Analytics reports, regular SEO reports etc), we'd like to send these into Freedcamp rather than via email, as it keeps it all within one place
Hi All,
It is done. You can create tasks, discussions, issues and upload files by emailing them in.
You can provide unique emails to people not having Freedcamp account to do the same (use it with caution).
This feature is part of Lite/Business and Enterprise plans in Freedcamp.
Cheers,
Igor

@Lucas - options 1 and 2 are only discussed here to allow you to upload files only to Files section in a project.
If you will email to my_project+tasks@post.freedcamp.com and email will contain attachments you will create a new task with attachments - all will be the same as if you would do it in web UI. Files will be attached to a newly created task and files will be visible in Files showing a link to a task they are attached to.
my_project+issues@post.freedcamp.com - will create an issue in Issue Tracker app
my_project+discussions@post.freedcamp.com - will create a new discussion in Discussions app -

I prefer option 2... but how does this work for creating tasks/to-dos with no attachments?
There are different ways to implement this, but it seems essential to be able to specify, by means of syntax in the subject line, the task due date and project. -

I prefer the third approach. Is there an ETA?

This feature is desperately needed!

@James /my_folder in a subject is only when you want to post files only into Files app in Freedcamp by emailing to my_project+files@post.freedcamp.com
Most likely you will CC to my_project+tasks@post.freedcamp.com or my_project+discussions@post.freedcamp.com where / will not be parsed and will not be working in a subject line. Emails to Tasks and Discussions always hae files attached posted to your task and discussion with no control as to what folder they will be put in Files
...unless of course you say that we should attach them to a task/discussion and also parse /my_folder if in a subject line to make sure files are also in a right folder in Files as well.

I think 2 is recipe for chaos as file are sent in by intention or mistake and create numerous folders.
3 Sounds good but maybe the "/" or even "/foldername" flag could be at the end of the subject. That would be one less click when editing the subect of an existing email and avoid spoiling the appearance and alphanumeric ordering of emails by subjects. I can see a use case being to cc Freedcamp into a new or ongoing email thread. To suddenly have an email appearing with a / at the start owuld seem odd to someone who doesn't know what its for.

Please please! an add-on/extension enabling the user to forward an email to a create a task would be SO helpful - ideally, assigning to a project in the same step.

I would like to have this feature too. Ability to forward emails to Freedcamp and attachments to go into files automatically. It would save so much time of copying everything over.

Not sure if Im looking for the same feature. But almost all PMS have the ability to forward emails to create tasks. Unfortunately I had to leave FreedCamp because it doesn't have this feature. On other PMS 75% of my tasks are created via email forwarding. Its a huge time saver and a must have now-a-days.

I would definitely like to see this functionality - or something similar. I just came over from a competitor that had this and it is a HUGE timesaver. Ultimately it would be nice to be able to email directly to a project, but I would even settle for a global "Inbox" that we could send emails to that would convert them over to tasks. Then we could simply move the task to the appropriate project. And only one unique email address would be required from Freedcamp for each account.

I would like to see this as well, especially because it has become a pain to extract threads from GMail since the removal of "Save as Google Doc". I don't like saving as PDFs, and they just require yet another file to manage.
A single per-project dropbox is fine for a first step, even if it never goes beyond that.
I would most often attach it to a Discussion item (or convert a portion of it). I'm mostly envisioning it for archiving specific converstations that might take place around a project which would ideally be captured (for posterity) in the Discussion forum, but the users happened not to do.
Automatically converting to a task or something might be done by some user-invoked Wizard, after receipt, rather than automatically. Automatic parsing might be too much work to get right, given the vagaries of actual emails.

Is this in the works? It would be very useful for me.

This is done in BaseCamp there is a button that creates an email address for the project. Then you just forward the email(s) to that address.

I've used Activcollab (activcollab.com) for a couple of years, and while it's got great features, they aren't implemented very well. The interface is clutered and not very intuitive. One feature it does have, though, that keeps me paying for access is the ability to send email directly into projects. These emails are converted into "Tasks" and any attachments are added to "Files." This is extremely useful since my clients don't need to be added as users to Activcollab. I set up email accounts for each client that act as a forwarding address to the matching Activcollab project. The addition of this, even as a paid app, would keep me devoted to Freedcamp. As of now, I can't take time to copy and paste email content from clients into Freedcamp projects.

I would like the same feature. My workplace uses a very elaborate work tracking system, and inbound email to add information to projects is a feature it has which is very nice.
